ABOUT THE ARTIST
By day, Michael Goodman laws. By night, he draws. Not only have his editorial cartoons and illustrations appeared in a myriad of publications, but he's also an accomplished painter, sculptor and salvager of junk (just watch his eyes widen when he spots a dumpster on his daily run).(He prefers to think of himself as a an avid “collector.”)
Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Goodman is a founding partner at the law firm of Goodman Allen Donnelly. Way back in 1981, when Universal Creators Syndicate acquired his comic strip “Wingtips”—which followed the antics of a hapless judge—he hoped to soon transition to cartooning full-time. But with a hectic law schedule and growing family, he felt compelled to keep his day job and drop the strip. Afterall, everyone had gotten used to eating 3 meals a day.
Fast-forward to 2020, his grown-up children hope he surprises them all by forsaking law to focus on art. Just don’t call it retirement. It’s simply his long overdue second act.
